Raise Concerns Over Atewa-sourced Bauxite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4944 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-1536x922.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.atewa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Atewa-day-2-127-2048x1229.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Three global manufacturing companies \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmwgroup.com\/\">BMW Group<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tetrapak.com\/\">Tetra Pak<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schueco.com\/\">Sch\u0171co International KG<\/a> \u2013 have responded to concerns over the use of aluminium made from bauxite mined in the Atewa Forest.<\/h4>\n<p>Their positions have been communicated in letters to the Concerned Citizens of Atewa Landscape (CCAL), the grassroots movement advocating against bauxite mining in Atewa Forest.<\/p>\n<p>The three companies are all members of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) established to certify members and their products in the bauxite-aluminium supply chain that meet its sustainability standards.<\/p>\n<p>While the companies recognise the Ghana government\u2019s desire to develop the aluminium sector for economic development and poverty reduction, they have firmly stated that their commitments to sustainability will not be compromised.
