The micro-climate produced by the cloud effect made possible by the Atewa Range Forest, supports, cocoa production and other food crop production. This, harnessed through a premium cocoa production and processing value chain program, will provide long-term livelihood support to the large population of cocoa farmers living around the forest reserve, while also securing the forest ecosystem critical for water provision upstream and downstream.

The plant list of Atewa Forest Comprises 1134 species. Although the vegetation structure of Atewa Forest has been highly modified by logging, farming and mineral prospecting and extraction, forest vegetation remains a all latitudes.

One of the major threats to the biodiversity of Atewa Forest, is hunting, which see hunters using different types of snares and traps to hunt animals. This particular trap is for small to medium sized mammals like giant rats, brush-tail porcupines, mongoose and sometimes pangolins.
